HOW TO CHOOSE A WEDDING SINGER

1. LOOK IN THE RIGHT PLACES

Wedding Singing is quite a niche service and there may not be as many Wedding Singers out there as there are Wedding DJs, but they are still relatively easy to find, IF you know where to look of course! Online is your best bet as most good Wedding Singers know to advertise here, though you still might want to start with a few wedding magazines (The directory sections) and by attending some popular wedding fairs. Search through their music and entertainment sections, but be sure not to limit a search to your own area, as most Wedding Singers will travel. The simplest and most straight forward way would be to type these search phrases (and variations of them) directly into Google for the most relevant results:

• Live Wedding Entertainment
• London Wedding Singer (or your own area)

When doing this you are likely to come across two main types of website:

Entertainment agency website – who promote singers and manage the bookings in exchange for a commission, either paid by yourself or the singer.
The Wedding Singer's own website - Usually for the Wedding Singer who is self-managed and prefers not to work with agencies. Cost are generally lower and you tend to have much more direct contact with them.
2. SAMPLE, SAMPLE, SAMPLE!

Once you have compiled a list of your favourite Wedding Singers it’s time to sample the goods. If online most Singers have the following for you to enjoy:

• Video Samples
• Performance images
• Repertoire/ Song list
• Biography
• Package information and base prices - Lists of what they can provide and how
• Client testimonials

3. CHECK FOR AVAILABILITY AND COST

This is crucial. Many full time Wedding Singers take bookings way in advance so be sure to enquire as early as possible. When calling or enquiring through an email address or online form you need two main things:

Current availability for your chosen date
A full quote, inclusive of travel and expenses to your wedding venue
4. FURTHER INTERROGATION

Once you have gathered a few Wedding Singer quotes and short listed your favourites you may want to sit down with your bride/ groom to be and go through the information once more. Maybe speak to your wedding venue, telling them of what you’re planning and asking whether they will need any information or certification from the Singer (Usually Public Liability Insurance and PAT). Before committing to a booking you need to know all of the facts. A few questions may include:

• Do you have Public Liability Insurance?
• How much experience do you have at working in the wedding industry?
• Do you provide written confirmation of the booking or a contract?
• Can we choose the songs?
• How do we keep in touch once the booking has been made?
• Can you learn new songs if not already in your repertoire?
• How do we go about booking and how much deposit do you require?

5. BOOKING A WEDDING SINGER

Most Wedding Singers and wedding entertainment agencies will require a deposit and written confirmation to secure the date for you and book a Wedding Singer package. Once they have taken a few initial details about your day and what is required they then provide you with the necessary documentation and instructions for further payment.

It’s as simple as that! Just be sure that if you’re interested in a particular Wedding Singer you let them know so that they can keep you informed on the date’s availability and remember that in most cases one Wedding Singer will take only one booking per day.
